Islamabad, Jun 20 (PTI) Pakistan announced on Saturday that technical-level talks between the US and Iran, aimed at restoring peace in West Asia, would begin on Sunday.
It further said that representatives of the United States and Iran, along with mediators from Pakistan and Qatar, will participate in the discussions.
Earlier this week, the US and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), which marked the beginning of a 60-day negotiation window.
Key mediator Pakistan signed the agreement as a guarantor.
Pakistan’s Saturday announcement came around the same time when US Vice President J D Vance told Fox News that the peace talks with Iran were on and negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were already in Switzerland, adding that he also
planned to join in the next few days.
Iranian state TV also said the country’s negotiation team is going to Switzerland, while there were reports that suggested Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is planning to be there too.
The talks were initially scheduled to begin on June 19, but were delayed.
“As a follow-up to the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, technical-level talks will be held in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, on 21 June 2026,” Pakistan’s Foreign Office said in a statement on Saturday.
It further said, Pakistan will continue to facilitate the process in its role as mediator.
