'Don't Place Banners, Posters': Vijay's TVK's Directive For Party Comrades

Tamil Nadu’s ruling party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has appealed to its cadre not to put up banners, posters, or cut-outs in public places that inconvenience people or disrupt traffic. In a statement issued on X, TVK General Secretary N Anand said party workers must remember that the party was founded for the welfare of Tamil Nadu’s people and should act responsibly.

“The Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam was founded with the sole aim of the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu… We must journey towards that goal,” Anand said.

He further stated, “Therefore, no party comrade shall place banners, posters, or anything of the sort anywhere—in streets, public places where people gather in large numbers, or in ways that cause hindrance to public movement or traffic—on occasions such as birthday celebrations or family events in a manner that inconveniences the general public.”

TVK Vows Strict Action Against Violators

The statement also warned that strict action would be taken against anyone violating the direction with the approval of the party chief and Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay.

The appeal has drawn attention as Tamil Nadu’s political culture has long been associated with giant posters, banners, and celebratory cut-outs of political leaders across public spaces. The announcement came on the day CM Vijay ordered the closure of 717 TASMAC liquor shops located near schools, places of worship, and bus stands.

Vijay is also expected to face a trust vote later this week. His party won 108 seats in the Assembly elections and secured support from Congress, Left parties, and VCK to cross the majority mark in the 234-member House.
