In a bizarre kitchen mishap now making the rounds online, a woman’s shortcut to making a soft-boiled egg in the microwave ended in a sudden explosion, prompting widespread reactions across social media.
The video, shared on X by user @gotrice2024, shows a woman preparing her morning meal and opting for a quicker alternative to boiling eggs on the stove. Too tired to follow the conventional method, she decided to try making a soft-boiled egg using a microwave. What appeared to be a harmless experiment, however, quickly took a dramatic turn.
According to the caption accompanying the clip, the egg initially looked “soft and blobby” after being taken out of the microwave. But the situation escalated within seconds when she cut into it, triggering
a sudden explosion. The post asked viewers to weigh in on what might have gone wrong and how such incidents could be avoided in the future.
The clip soon gained traction online, drawing a mix of humorous, concerned, and informative responses from users, many of whom pointed out the risks of microwaving eggs without proper precautions.
“Needed to put in a bowl with salted water to hopefully prevent exploding and need to be percise with timing. Those egg explosions can’t get crazy,” said one user.
“🤣pressure build up. Same thing happens when big pharma injects germs into food and pesticides into food and people go homeless and get sick and explode in library from pressure from heat of chemical concoction reacting in stomach,” said another.
“Life is hard enough already. Don’t expect a microwave to treat a closed egg gently. That’s not breakfast; it’s bait that can trigger a heart attack,” a third user said.
“Apparently potatoes can explode, too (learned this from a Laura Ingalls Wilder book as a kid.) Always poke holes in them to let air out before baking them in a campfire, or they could blow up in your face and cause severe burns,” said a fourth.
“I never even considered putting an egg in the microwave,” said another.
“If she can’t be bothered using a pot, why not boil it in water in the microwave rather then dry waving it? It’s two more extra steps lol,” another commented.
This young lady just made some breakfast and was too tired to soft boil her egg. She decided she would do the next best thing.

Several users highlighted that eggs can explode in microwaves due to pressure buildup inside the shell when heated rapidly. Without an outlet for the steam to escape, the internal pressure can cause the egg to burst, sometimes violently.
While the video has amused many, it has also served as a cautionary reminder about the potential hazards of unconventional cooking methods.
