IndiGo Share Price: Shares of InterGlobe Aviation Ltd (IndiGo), already down 9 per cent over the past five sessions, fell another 7 per cent on Monday. This came even as the airline reported operating
more than 1,650 flights on Sunday, compared with 1,500 on Saturday. IndiGo said its on-time performance had improved to 75 per cent from 30 per cent the previous day, and noted that refund processing and baggage handling were functioning at full capacity for both direct and indirect bookings.
The update came after IndiGo announced the formation of a Crisis Management Group (CMG) comprising Chairman Vikram Singh Mehta, board directors Gregg Saretsky, Mike Whitaker and Amitabh Kant, along with Chief Executive Pieter Elbers. The CMG has been tasked with tackling the wave of cancellations and delays and restoring network-wide operations at the earliest.
On Friday, Elbers acknowledged that the airline had faced “severe operational disruptions” in recent days, with more than 1,000 flights cancelled on December 5 alone — over half of IndiGo’s daily operations. He attributed the chaos to a major reboot of the airline’s operational systems. “We have experienced severe operational disruptions for the past few days… with December 5 being the most severely impacted day, with cancellations well over a thousand,” he said in a video message to passengers.
IndiGo said the CMG has been meeting frequently and is receiving continuous updates from management on recovery efforts. Directors outside the CMG were also engaged through multiple telephonic discussions.
“The objective of these meetings and exchanges is to address, as quickly as practically possible, the hardships faced by our customers and stakeholders while restoring operational integrity across the network. The Board of Directors is doing everything possible to address these challenges and to ensure refunds on cancellations and waivers on cancellation or rescheduling during the period of crisis,” an IndiGo spokesperson said.
IndiGo currently operates a fleet of more than 400 aircraft, runs over 2,300 flights a day, connects 90-plus domestic and 45 international destinations, added 58 aircraft in 2024, and carried more than 118 million passengers in FY25.
