The weekend seems to be working in Welcome To The Jungle’s favour. After a good opening, Akshay Kumar’s latest comedy has picked up pace on its second day, giving the film a stronger total at the box office.
According to Sacnilk, Welcome To The Jungle collected ₹20 crore on Saturday, its second day in theatres. That’s a noticeable jump from its Day 1 earnings of ₹15.25 crore. The film had also earned ₹3.75 crore through paid previews before its release.
With these numbers, the film’s total India net collection now stands at ₹39 crore. Its India gross collection has reached ₹46.80 crore after two days.
The Ahmed Khan directorial has also recorded the third-biggest Bollywood opening of the year. Border 2 is at the top with an opening of ₹43.50 crore,
followed by Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which opened at ₹238.60 crore.
The film is the third instalment in the Welcome franchise. It follows a bunch of gangsters, criminals and quirky characters whose lives collide in a jungle near the border. What begins as an operation that looks like a film shoot soon turns into a series of hilarious and action-packed misadventures.
The comedy features one of the biggest ensemble casts in recent years. Along with Akshay Kumar, the film stars Farida Jalal, Johny Lever, Shreyas Talpade, Rajpal Yadav, Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda, Daler Mehndi, Aftab Shivdasani, Mukesh Tiwari, Yashpal Sharma, Kiran Kumar, Zakir Hussain, Vindu Dara Singh, Urvashi Rautela, Hemant Pandey, Brijendra Kala, Feroze Khan, Puneet Issar, Sudesh Berry, Jeetu Verma, Vrihi Kodvara, Adityaa Singgh and Bhagya Bhanushali, among others.
Before the film’s release, Suniel Shetty spoke to ANI about the nervousness that comes with every Friday, even after spending three decades in Bollywood.
“Everything is connected to it. A film’s success is tied to its box office performance. One Friday you may be on top, and the next Friday you may not. So yes, there’s always excitement, anxiety, tension, and nervous anticipation.” He added that while the team has enjoyed the film, it’s the audience that has the final say.
“The film is truly very entertaining. I can’t say whether it’s good or bad because everyone’s perspective is different. When we watch the film, we enjoy it immensely. But when the audience watches it on Friday, their perspective can be completely different,” he added.
