World No. 1 Test bowler Jasprit Bumrah played only three Tests for Team India in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy due to workload management for which he faced a lot of criticism as well. But according to chief
selector Ajit Agarkar, the 31-year-old speedster is ready and keen to play both the Tests against the West Indies.
Bumrah was included in India’s 15-member squad on Thursday, September 25, for the upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies.
While speaking to reporters in Dubai during the squad announcement press conference, Agarkar when asked about Bumrah’s availability for the series said, “Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah ready and keen to play both Tests against West Indies.”
Bumrah has played a total of 48 Test matches so far in which he has picked up 219 wickets. In the 2024-25 edition of Border-Gavaskar Trophy, he accounted for the dismissal of 32 batters and in the three Tests against England, he picked up 14 wickets which included two five-wicket hauls.
The Ahmedabad-based cricketer has played two Tests against the West Indies so far and dismissed 13 batters. He also has a Test hat-trick to his name against the Men in Maroon.
In the two-match Test series against the West Indies in October 2025, Bumrah will lead the pace attack for Shubman Gill & Co. and will have Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna for support.
Siraj was in red-hot form for Team India in the five-match series against the English team. He played all five matches and picked up 23 wickets, which included a nine-wicket haul in the fifth Test at The Oval.
Bengal pacer Akash Deep has been ignored by the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee for the home series next month. Akash Deep is, however, picked in the Rest Of India (ROI) squad for the Irani Cup match against Vidarbha. The Irani Cup match will be played from October 1 to 5 at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur.
