RELIEF FROM HUMIDITY, BUT COMMUTERS FACE DISRUPTION
The rain brought much-needed relief from the humid weather that had persisted over the past several days.
However, the downpour also affected normal life, with waterlogging reported in several low-lying areas across Delhi-NCR.
The IMD said the temperature was recorded at 25.8 degrees Celsius at 2.30 am with calm winds before the rain intensified.
It has also forecast wind speeds of 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, over several parts of Delhi.
CIVIC AGENCIES ON HIGH ALERT
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reviewed the situation and directed all government agencies to remain on high alert.
“The Delhi Government is working on a war footing to tackle the waterlogging situation. All government agencies are on high alert following orders from Chief Minister Rekha Gupta,” the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said.
Teams from the Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have been deployed to clear waterlogged stretches and ensure smooth traffic movement across the capital.
Pre-monsoon desilting of major stormwater drains, including those in Narela and Dwarka, helped prevent widespread flooding at some key locations, keeping underpasses such as NHPC Chowk largely operational despite the heavy rain.
TREES UPROOTED AFTER OVERNIGHT RAIN
Meanwhile, PTI reported that two trees were uprooted on Raja Dhir Singh Marg in southeast Delhi’s East of Kailash, temporarily disrupting traffic.
According to the Delhi Fire Service (DFS), one tree collapsed near the ISKCON Temple, while another fell outside the National Heart Institute. No injuries were reported in either incident.
With the IMD forecasting more rain through the day, authorities continue to monitor the situation as waterlogging and traffic congestion remain a concern across several parts of Delhi and the NCR.
