Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he remains open to meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin in Miami during the G20 Summit in December.

In an interview with German newspaper Deutsche Welle, Zelenskyy said he would travel to Miami, Florida, to attend the summit if Putin also participates. “Yes, of course. We must come. We must meet, talk, and make decisions,” he was quoted as saying.

Speaking about what a potential meeting with Putin could achieve, Zelenskyy said it should be judged by its outcome rather than the words exchanged between the two leaders. Putin is currently in New Delhi for the BRICS Summit.

“It is not about words. What I tell him, or what he wants to tell me… That does not matter. What matters are results,” Zelenskyy

was quoted as saying by the German outlet.

The potential meeting would be the first face-to-face encounter between Zelenskyy and Putin since December 2019, when the two leaders met in Paris along with the presidents of France and Germany under the Normandy Four negotiating format.

The remarks come amid an escalation in Russian strikes on Ukraine. Russia attacked two petrol stations in Kyiv with jet-powered drones early Friday, killing two people, while three more people were killed in Russian strikes in the Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv regions, according to local officials.

Ukraine also carried out drone attacks on Russia, killing two people in the Tula region overnight and another in the Kursk region on Friday, local officials said.

The latest strikes come as fighting along the front line remains largely stalled more than four-and-a-half years into the war. In recent weeks, Russia and Ukraine have increasingly targeted logistics and other economic infrastructure in an effort to disrupt each other’s war effort.
