Vaibhav Suryavanshi entered his name in the history books on Tuesday (December 2) by becoming the youngest cricketer to score a century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The left-handed batter from Samastipur
opened the innings for Bihar against Maharashtra at Eden Gardens on Tuesday and completed his century in 58 balls. He hammered 7 fours and 7 sixes to reach the 100-run mark.
Before Suryavanshi, the youngest batter to score century in SMAT was Vijay Zol. Zol was 18 years and 118 days old when he made 109 runs from 63 balls for Maharashtra against Mumbai in March 2013.
Vaibhav, who is 14 years and 250 days old, completed his century by scoring a six on the first ball of the 20th over bowled by Arshin Kulkarni.

He remained unbeaten on 108 runs from 60 balls to help Bihar post a total of 176 runs for the loss of three wickets. The Rajasthan Royals star, who will represent the India U19 team in the U19 Asia Cup in Dubai from December 12, added 75 runs for the fourth wicket with Ayush Loharuka, who remained unbeaten on 25 runs from 17 balls.
For Maharashtra, Arshin, Rajvardhan Hangargekar and Vicky Ostwal picked up one wicket each.
Flop show in first three matches
Vaibhav, who is the vice-captain of Bihar in SMAT 2025, was not able to do much with the bat in the first three Elite Group B matches for Bihar in Kolkata. He got out for 14 runs against Chandigarh on November 26 and made 13 and 5 runs against Madhya Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir in the next two matches played on November 28 and November 30, respectively.
