Ganga Expressway: Will It Connect To Jewar Airport?
Yes, the expressway will connect to Jewar airport, making it easier for people to travel. The
Conception of Ganga Expressway
The idea for the Ganga Expressway was first proposed in 2007 during the tenure of then Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, when it was envisioned as the Greater Noida–Ballia Expressway. However, the project remained stalled for years. It was revived in 2019 under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who allocated an initial budget of Rs 2,000 crore in 2020 to kickstart Phase 1. The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has been overseeing the project.
Construction Done In Phases
Construction of the expressway was divided into four stretches, with three handled by Adani Infrastructure and one by IRB Infrastructure. The scale of engineering involved is evident in the numbers. The project includes 14 long bridges, among them a 900-metre bridge over the Ganga in Hapur district and a 720-metre bridge over the Ram Ganga in Badaun. In addition, there are seven railway overbridges, 32 flyovers and as many as 453 underpasses built along the route.
One of the standout features of the expressway is a 3.5-kilometre airstrip constructed in the Jalalabad tehsil of Shahjahanpur district. Designed for emergency landing and takeoff operations, the airstrip successfully hosted its first test run by the Indian Air Force on May 2, 2025, highlighting the strategic importance of the project.
CM Yogi Adityanath Sets Inauguration Timeline
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has repeatedly stressed the need to complete the expressway by the end of February 2026. During a recent high-level review meeting of major infrastructure and development projects, he said that mega initiatives like the Ganga Expressway are rapidly positioning Uttar Pradesh as a new hub of economic prosperity and investment.
As per DNA, during the meeting, CM said, “Mega infrastructure and development projects are rapidly establishing Uttar Pradesh as a new centre of economic prosperity and investment, and completing all these schemes in a time-bound and quality manner is the government’s topmost priority.”
Highlighting the importance of the project, the Chief Minister noted that the expressway would provide historic strength to the state’s connectivity and serve as a strong base for industrial, agricultural and logistics activities. As the viral aerial video continues to circulate online, it has only amplified public anticipation for the launch of a project that promises to reshape travel and trade across Uttar Pradesh.
