Thane, May 7 (PTI) A fire broke out in the meter room of a residential building in Maharashtra’s Thane city in the early hours of Thursday, damaging 12 electricity meters, an official said.
No person was injured in the blaze, which erupted at 1.12 am in the meter room on the ground floor of the three-storey Sarika Apartment building located in the Pachpakhadi area, Thane regional disaster management cell chief Yasin Tadvi said.
Smoke emanating from the meter room triggered panic among residents, prompting them to rush out of their homes as a precautionary measure.
After being alerted, fire personnel rushed to the spot.
“The fire was confined to the meter box room and was extinguished by 1.35 am. The situation was brought under control swiftly, and no
injuries were reported,” Tadvi said.
Twelve electricity meters were damaged in the blaze, he said.
“Residents returned to their apartments after nearly an hour once the area was declared safe by the fire brigade personnel,” the official said.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, he added. PTI COR GK
