Actor Naga Chaitanya has moved to the Delhi High Court seeking protection of his personality rights. Reportedly, the actor has objected to the alleged unauthorised use of his name, image and likeness across various online platforms. The actor has also raised concerns over AI-generated content, unauthorised merchandise and pornographic material allegedly circulating on the internet using his identity. He has also flagged content which suggest that he cheated on his former wife, Samantha Ruth Prabhu.
Chaitanya Seeks Protection Of Personality Rights
As reported by Hindustan Times, in his petition, Naga Chaitanya has requested the court to prevent third parties from using his name, image and persona without permission. The suit also alleges that several websites and online platforms have been exploiting
the actor’s popularity by using his identity for commercial gain and generating traffic through objectionable content.
Lawyer Flags AI-Generated And Explicit Content
The matter was heard by Justice Jyoti Singh of the Delhi High Court. During the hearing, advocate Vaibhav Gaggar, appearing on behalf of Chaitanya, informed the court that multiple websites were using the actor’s name alongside explicit search terms to attract users and boost online traffic. The lawyer argued that such content not only misuses Chaitanya’s identity but also harms his reputation.
The judge also observed that the scrutiny public figures face is disappointing and said, “You are in public life, you are certainly more vulnerable than the rest of the people, but it has its limitations.”
Chay Addresses Defamatory Claims About Samantha Ruth Prabhu
Apart from the alleged misuse of his image, Chaitanya’s legal team also flagged content related to his personal life, particularly his past relationship with ex-wife Samantha Ruth Prabhu. The lawyers claimed that several online posts and videos allegedly portray Chaitanya as someone who cheated on Samantha and was responsible for ruining her career. The actor’s team argued that such claims were defamatory. “This is trolling, this is not fair criticism,” Advocate Gaggar said.
For now, the Delhi High Court is expected to examine the actor’s plea and determine what protections can be granted against the alleged unauthorised use of his personality rights. The next hearing will take place on September 30.
