India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav and star all-rounder Shivam Dube will play a couple of Vijay Hazare Trophy matches for Mumbai. According to a report in the Indian Express on Monday (December 22), the duo have informed the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) about their availability for Mumbai’s last two Elite Group C matches in Jaipur on January 6 and 8 against Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, respectively.
“Surya and Dube have informed us that they will be playing two Vijay Hazare Trophy games on January 6th and 8th. Their names will be added to the Mumbai squad. As far as Rohit Sharma is concerned, he will be playing two league games at the moment,” an MCA official was quoted as saying by Indian Express.
As per the available information, all
the players who featured in the recently concluded five-match Test series between India and South Africa have been asked to play at least two Vijay Hazare Trophy matches.
“I think we made it clear a year or a couple of years back that whenever players are available, they should be playing domestic cricket. I mean, that’s the only way you’ll keep yourself sharp and playing cricket, if you’ve got a long enough break. Whether that’s possible with the international cricket you’re playing or not, that only time will tell, but if the guys are free, they should be playing domestic cricket,” chief selector Ajit Agarkar had said a couple of months back.
Rohit in Mumbai’s squad
World No. 1 ODI batter Rohit was included in Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare Trophy squad on Friday, and he is all set to reach Jaipur on Monday. As of now, Rohit will play a couple of matches for the Shardul Thakur-led side in the premier domestic one-day tournament.
In the 2025-26 edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Mumbai will open its campaign on Wednesday (December 24) against Sikkim and then take on Uttarakhand in Jaipur on December 26. Mumbai’s next three fixtures are scheduled against Chhattisgarh, Goa and Maharashtra on December 29, December 31 and January 3.
