Yashasvi Jaiswal has scored a century on Day 1 of the ongoing 2nd India-West Indies Test at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. He reached the 100-run mark in 145 balls by running two runs on the first ball of the 51st over bowled by Khary Pierre. He has hammered 16 fours so far.
The century in the ongoing match helped him join legendary Sunil Gavaskar and Gautam Gambhir in an elite list of Indian openers.

Jaiswal
is the second Indian opener after Gavaskar to score a Test century as an opener against the West Indies at Arun Jaitley Stadium. Gavaskar scored two Test centuries against the Caribbeans in Delhi as an opener. In 1979, he scored 120 runs, and in 1983, he made 121 runs from 128 balls in the first innings.
The century in the Delhi Test is Jaiswal’s seventh century in the five-day format of the game for Team India since making his debut against the West Indies in July 2023.
According to Cricbuzz, only three players have managed to score more Test centuries before turning 24 than Jaiswal. The list is topped by Don Bradman (12), and the legendary Australian is followed by India’s Sachin Tendulkar (11) and West Indies’ Garfield Sobers (9). Pakistan’s Javed Miandad, South Africa’s Graeme Smith, England’s Alastair Cook, and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson also had seven centuries each before celebrating their 24th birthday.
Jaiswal added 58 runs in 17.3 overs for the first wicket with KL Rahul (38 runs from 54 balls) and has added more than 150 runs for the second with Sai Sudharsan (64 not out).
