If you thought Dhurandhar releasing today was the big news, the makers had another surprise lined up. Just hours into the film’s theatrical debut, they confirmed that the sequel, Dhurandhar 2, will hit cinemas on March 19, 2026 — a date that now sets up a high-voltage box-office clash between Ranveer Singh and Yash, whose action drama Toxic is slated for the same day.
The first film, which opened on December 5, marks one of the most ambitious spy action thrillers India has attempted. Directed, written and co-produced by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar features Ranveer Singh in the lead, supported by Sara Arjun, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna and R. Madhavan. At 214 minutes, the film stands among the longest Indian titles ever made.
The project
has drawn attention for its intensity and scale, especially after the CBFC granted it an ‘A’ certificate. The certification quietly revealed the film’s central conflict, the IC-814 Kandahar hijacking, which works alongside references to the 2001 Parliament attack and RAW’s covert Operation Lyari.
The narrative tracks R. Madhavan’s character, Intelligence Bureau Chief Ajay Sanyal, as he formulates a dangerous mission to break into a terror network operating out of Pakistan. Ranveer Singh appears as a 20-year-old Punjabi youth, incarcerated for a revenge-driven act, who is recruited and trained to infiltrate Karachi’s underworld.
Shot across multiple locations, including Thailand, Mumbai, Punjab and Ladakh, between July 2024 and October 2025, the film is produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Aditya Dhar and Lokesh Dhar under Jio Studios and B62 Studios.
Industry watchers are observing the film closely as it marks Ranveer’s return to a solo-led commercial action vehicle. His track record sets high expectations: Padmaavat opened at ₹19 crore before reaching ₹585 crore worldwide; Simmba launched at ₹20.72 crore and finished at ₹390 crore globally; while Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani began at ₹11.10 crore and ended at ₹357.5 crore worldwide. Early indicators for Dhurandhar appear solid too, with advance bookings reportedly touching ₹9 crore.
Meanwhile, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is an upcoming Indian period gangster drama written by Geetu Mohandas and Yash, with Mohandas also directing the film. Headlined by Yash, the project brings together a star-studded ensemble featuring Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth, Akshay Oberoi and Sudev Nair. The film is produced by Venkat K. Narayana and Yash under KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations.
The project was first announced in December 2023 under the working title Yash 19, marking the actor’s 19th film as a lead. The official title was unveiled shortly after. Production began in August the following year in Bengaluru, with Rajeev Ravi handling cinematography.
While the team has not issued a formal confirmation, it is widely reported that Anirudh Ravichander has come on board as the film’s composer, replacing Ravi Basrur. The film has been shot simultaneously in Kannada and English and is planned for a multilingual release across six languages on 19 March 2026, aligning with the Ugadi festival.
