Japan always sees a high number of visitors every spring when cherry blossoms are in full bloom. Surprisingly, people living in Mumbai don’t have to travel far to see them, as the city has its own spots where these delicate pink flowers bloom. Even though the region’s tropical climate isn’t ideal for cherry blossoms, some areas have successfully grown these trees. One of the best places to see pink blooms is in the Vikhroli stretch of the Eastern Express Highway.
This area is currently lined with Tabebuia Heterophylla, also called the Pink Trumpet Tree. Unlike traditional cherry blossoms, these trees need very little water and are easy to maintain, which makes them perfect for the city environment. During the bloom, the road becomes a dreamy
sight as the pink flowers cover the ground and hang from the branches.
Vikhroli’s Stunning Pink Stretch
Every year, the stretch of highway between Ghatkopar and Vikhroli, near Godrej, lights up in pink when the flowers bloom fully.
The video posted on Instagram came with the caption, “Location – Vikhroli Ghatkopar Eastern Express Highway. Ps – this Flowers are called Pink tabebuia.”
Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “Beauty of Vikhroli.”
Another shared, “Pollution killed the vibe of this otherwise glorious shot.”
“Visited Multiple times. It looks so beautiful,” a comment read.
An individual stated, “Finally, the drone is capturing the beauty we have been seeing for decades.”
Another mentioned, “Mumbai Doesn’t Slow Down. But For A Few Pink Moments, It Learns To Breathe.”
One more added, “The people coming over here have zero civic sense. They are literally plucking the flowers by taking branches down for the kids. Mothers are making reels, but kids are not interested. Girls are taking 1000 photos by blocking the footpath. Trees ke branches damage kar rahe hai. That place is for joggers over there on Sunday, unko jogging karne nahi mil raha.”
Other Pink Spots Across The City
Other than the Vikhroli stretch, there are several other places in Mumbai where the Pink Trumpet trees can be seen. These include areas near Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, the Borivali Gorai road, opposite Lion Gate in Fort, near the Bombay Stock Exchange, Rani Baug and Mahim Nature Park. The city also has other types of Tabebuia trees, such as Tabebuia Berteroi and Tabebuia Aurea.
