India A’s decision to keep out their best batter, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi out from the three-man list for a super over against Bangladesh A in the semifinal of the Rising Stars Asia Cup has drawn massive
ire from fans, with people calling out the management for the questionable choice of batters.
Chasing a massive 195 in 20 overs, India huffed and puffed to 194, the same score as posted by Bangladesh, to push the match into a super over.
Having been the chasing side, India had to come out to bat first and post a target in the super over. One would have expected Sooryavanshi to lead the charge, besides the likes of Priyansh Arya, skipper Jitesh Sharma, Ramandeep Singh or Ashutosh Sharma.
To everyone’s surprise, Jitesh walked in with Ramandeep to open in the super over. After the former was dismissed for a golden duck, Ashutosh followed, with no signs of Sooryavanshi still.
Ashutosh too departed for a golden duck as India couldn’t post any runs in the super over, in an embarrassing display. Bangladesh needed two deliveries to score a single as Suyash Sharma’s delivery was declared wide.
The internet expectedly was furious at the Indian team management for not sending Sooryavanshi, especially after he had scored a 15-ball 38 while opening, at a stunning strike rate of 253.33.
Let’s take a look at some of the reactions:
“Vaibhav Suryavanshi wasn’t allowed to bat, because Jitesh wanted to hog the attention,” a user tweeted on Friday evening.

“Whoever’s decision not to send Vaibhav in the super over should never get a coaching assignment again; that was even more of a brainfade than Bangladesh did in the last ball,” another user wrote.
