The makers of Border 2 have finally unveiled Ghar Kab Aaoge, a deeply emotional song that reimagines the iconic Sandese Aate Hai from the 1997 classic Border. Released on Friday, the track brings together
a powerhouse lineup of voices — Sonu Nigam, Arijit Singh, Roop Kumar Rathod, Vishal Mishra, and Diljit Dosanjh.
Recreated by composer Mithoon with additional lyrics by Manoj Muntashir, the song attempts to preserve the soul of the original while speaking to a new generation.
Inside the Music Video: Letters, Longing, And Quiet Patriotism
The 3-minute-10-second music video opens with Varun Dhawan as Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya, reading a letter from home — a moment that visibly overwhelms him before he joins his fellow soldiers in a brief, joyous celebration.
Diljit Dosanjh, portraying Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, PVC, lip-syncs to his portions of the song, while Sunny Deol appears as Lt Col Fateh Singh Kaler, emotionally absorbing the words of a letter from his loved ones. Ahan Shetty makes a fleeting appearance as Lt Cdr Joseph Pius Alfred Noronha.
The visuals rely on restraint rather than spectacle, allowing silence, expressions, and written words to carry the emotional weight.
How The New Version Differs From The Original
While the original Sandese Aate Hai ran over ten minutes, the recreated Ghar Kab Aaoge exists in two versions. The audio release stretches to 10 minutes and 35 seconds, while the music video presents a concise edit focused on emotional highlights.
The song retains select, instantly recognisable lines from the 1997 version, but introduces new verses written specifically for contemporary listeners. Notably, Mithoon preserves the original musical structure, ensuring nostalgia remains intact even as the lyrics evolve.
The original track was sung by Sonu Nigam and Roop Kumar Rathod in Border, which starred Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, and Akshaye Khanna.
