British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott recently shared a motorbike ride with British-Pakistani biker Gul Tariq, who made history by travelling solo from London to Lahore. The journey took 56 days and covered several countries across Europe and Asia before ending in Pakistan.
Marriott posted a video of the ride on X (formerly Twitter), where both women were seen enjoying the experience. The clip quickly drew attention online, with many praising Tariq for completing such a long and difficult journey alone.
The Ride Began In Manchester
The video starts with Jane Marriott sitting behind Gul Tariq on the bike. Laughing during the ride, Marriott says, “Go faster. Go faster. This is so much fun.”
As the conversation continues, Marriott asks Tariq about her journey. Tariq explains
that the trip took her 56 days to complete. She said she first travelled from Manchester to London before crossing the English Channel into France.
From there, she passed through Switzerland and Italy, riding through the Alps along the way.
Tariq also shared that she felt a personal connection while travelling through Greece because of her roots in Pakistan’s Sargodha region and its historical links to Alexander the Great.
Women Bikers Helped Her Journey
Tariq said she met another female biker in Bulgaria before entering Turkey. She explained that women bikers across different countries helped and hosted her during the trip.
Marriott sounded surprised and excited when she asked, “There’s a woman biker community?” “Yes,” Tariq replied. To which Marriott said, “I love this.”
Tariq also revealed that she is working on a book focused on women bikers and wanted to meet female riders during her travels. She added that travelling with heavy luggage while following a vegan or vegetarian diet made the trip even more challenging.

Pakistan Welcomed Her Warmly
Tariq said she was deeply moved by the response she received after entering Pakistan.
According to her, people from Karachi to Lahore welcomed her warmly, with strangers gathering on roads carrying flowers and rose petals. She also mentioned that around 80 women bikers joined and supported her during different parts of the journey.
Marriott then asked her if she planned to continue travelling around the world. “Yes. Slowly, slowly, but I definitely need to finish the journey,” Tariq replied.
Many Praised Her Achievement
The post shared by Marriott described Gul Tariq as a “trailblazing British-Pakistani motorcyclist” and highlighted her achievement as the first woman to complete the London-to-Lahore route solo on a bike.
Many people online reportedly praised Tariq’s determination and called her journey inspiring for women interested in adventure travel and motorcycling.
As per Pakistan Today, her ride is also being seen as an important moment for women bikers, especially within the British-Pakistani community, where supporters said her achievement could encourage more women to explore such fields confidently.
