Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Tuesday met UK National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell and Deputy NSA Matthew Collins in London, where the two sides discussed ways to advance the India–UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The talks covered key global and regional security issues, as well as cooperation in critical and emerging technologies under the bilateral Technology Security Initiative. Misri, who arrived in London on Monday for a high-level bilateral visit, also engaged with leading scholars and foreign policy experts at the Chatham House think-tank. During a discussion on ‘What does India want from the world?’, he outlined India’s foreign policy priorities, strategic partnerships, and its evolving view of the global order. “Earlier
today, at Chatham House, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri discussed ‘What does India want from the world?’ with UK scholars, focusing on India’s foreign policy priorities, strategic partnerships, and its perception of the current state of the world order,” the Indian High Commission said in a statement. Later, Misri attended an event at India House in London where he met scholars to discuss the dynamics of multipolarity in Asia and India’s perspectives on regional partnerships, particularly in East Asia. The visit builds on recent high-level engagements between the two countries. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s visit to Mumbai last month followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to London in July, during which both leaders concluded the India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). The pact, expected to significantly boost the current £44-billion trade relationship, is now awaiting UK parliamentary ratification. A joint statement from the Modi-Starmer dialogue noted that both leaders looked forward to early ratification of the CETA and welcomed the resetting of the Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO), which will oversee the agreement’s implementation and drive forward broader trade and investment cooperation.
