Several parts of Bengaluru will face planned power interruptions on Tuesday, December 23, as the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited carries out emergency maintenance work on key transmission infrastructure. The shutdown will affect residential neighbourhoods, IT hubs, and industrial zones across south, west, and north Bengaluru, disrupting daily routines for residents, offices, and businesses.
Officials said the outage is required to address urgent maintenance needs and prevent larger system failures. Electricity supply will be restored once the work is completed.
Why the Power Cut Is Being Carried Out
The power interruption has been scheduled to allow emergency repairs and maintenance on substations and feeders. Such shutdowns are
typically undertaken when faults are detected or when system upgrades are needed to maintain grid stability, particularly during periods of sustained electricity load.
Residents are advised to plan in advance, charge essential devices, and make alternative arrangements where required, especially for work-from-home schedules, elevators, water pumps, and medical equipment dependent on electricity.
South and West Bengaluru to Be Affected from 10 AM to 4 PM
Large parts of south and west Bengaluru will face a power cut on Tuesday, December 23, between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Parts of north Bengaluru, including Hebbal and Kempapura, will also face a power cut on Tuesday, December 23, between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Several residential clusters and office zones fall under this shutdown.

EPIP and Tech Parks to Face Longer Shutdown Till 5 PM

Impacted areas include L and T, Ragihalli Siddapura Gate, EPIP Layout, TCS Software campus, SJR Tech Park, VSNL feeder zones, Reliance Big Bazaar area, Oriental Hotel, Airtel facilities, Bushra Tech Park, Gopalan Enterprises, Sada Tech Park, Qualcomm, GE BE Company, Bagmane Neon Block, and the EPIP Industrial Area.
Businesses operating from these locations are expected to rely on generator backup to maintain operations during the shutdown.
What Residents Should Keep in Mind
Power supply is expected to be restored immediately after the maintenance work is completed, though officials caution that restoration timelines may vary slightly depending on ground conditions. Residents are advised not to repeatedly contact helplines during the outage window, as the shutdown is pre-scheduled.
With multiple zones affected at the same time, the power cut on Tuesday, December 23, is expected to be widely felt across Bengaluru. As the city continues to depend heavily on uninterrupted electricity for homes, offices, and essential services, such planned shutdowns highlight the importance of preparedness and advance planning.
