India’s T20 World Cup campaign has only just begun, with the defending champions opening their account with a win over the USA on Friday. However, the camp is already dealing with injury concerns and illness. Washington Sundar is yet to join the squad, Jasprit Bumrah missed the Wankhede game due to viral fever, and it is now understood that Abhishek Sharma has also been under the weather.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, captain Suryakumar Yadav said Abhishek was battling with a fever while batting against the USA on Friday night. The dynamic opener endured a golden duck on his T20 World Cup debut and didn’t take the field later in the second innings due to an upset stomach.
Washington Sundar to Join In Delhi
Washington Sundar, the fit-again
all-rounder, will join the Indian squad in New Delhi ahead of their game against Namibia on February 12, skipper Suryakumar Yadav announced after the team’s 29-run victory over the USA in the T20 World Cup on Saturday.
“Washington Sundar is fit and will be joining the squad directly in Delhi (ahead of the Namibia game),” Yadav said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
It should be noted that Washington sustained a side strain and a rib muscle tear during the ODI series against New Zealand, causing him to miss the T20I series leading up to the T20 World Cup.
The Tamil Nadu all-rounder underwent an intensive rehabilitation programme and adhered to all Return To Play protocols before receiving medical clearance to return to the field.
For nearly a week, he has been batting and bowling without significant difficulty at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. The Indian team has already lost pacer Harshit Rana, who has been ruled out due to a knee injury and is expected to be out for a substantial period.
