Littering in public places has been a major issue in India for years. While some destinations are praised for their cleanliness, others struggle with trash ruining their natural beauty. Recently, a video from Mawlynnong, called Asia’s Cleanest Village, has brought the problem back into the spotlight. In the clip, a foreign YouTuber named Paduhaki, who is married to a woman from Meghalaya, confronts an Indian tourist for throwing multiple plastic water bottles on the roadside.
The incident took place while he was travelling in the scenic village, known for its strict cleanliness and beautiful surroundings. Seeing someone litter in such a well maintained area left him upset.
Foreigner Confronts Tourists Over Plastic Waste
In the video, Paduhaki tells
the Indian tourists that he lives in Meghalaya and notes the car’s registration number along with the driver. When he confronts the driver about littering, the man tries to excuse himself by saying there was no dustbin nearby. However, another person quickly points out that a dustbin is actually very close. After realising this, two people from the car get out, pick up the plastic water bottles and throw them into the bin.
The YouTuber says, “So let me just put it more nicely here. I have been visiting for a couple of times actually. I live here in Meghalaya. So, this gentleman just threw the plastic here. We have the register number. We also have the driver. What do you think, guys? Is it fine or what? I think it’s not fine. Welcome to Mawlynnong. This is the cleanest village, but still, you know, keep it clean. We need to respect and honour that one. That’s what it is.”
Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “Those guys just got humbled after knowing who the actual outsiders were.”
Another shared, “Whole India is with you on this. We don’t want people without civic sense anywhere in India. If they want to throw garbage, better go to their own state. Whoever throws garbage on the road needs to be told to pick it.”
“Paduhaki is being more local than the local people,” a comment read.
One more added, “Marrying a local woman made him more powerful than the locals. Be careful of these kinds of people.”
In the comments section, Paduhaki thanked the man who spoke up and asked the others in the car to clean the trash they had thrown. He reminded everyone that Mawlynnong is known as the cleanest village in Asia and said it should be kept that way.
