Chandigarh, May 31 (PTI) A day after rain lashed several parts of Haryana and Punjab, maximum temperatures on Sunday hovered much below the normal limits in the two states, including their common capital Chandigarh.
According to the meteorological department here, Chandigarh recorded a maximum of 32 degrees Celsius, over seven notches below normal limits.
In Haryana, Ambala recorded a high of 32.2 degrees Celsius, seven notches below normal, while Karnal recorded a high of 29.8 degrees Celsius, 10 degrees below normal.
Hisar recorded a high of 36.6 degrees Celsius, over five notches below normal, with Rohtak recording a high of 34.3 degrees Celsius, nearly seven degrees below normal.
Mercury settled at 37 degrees Celsius in Sirsa, and at 34.9 degrees Celsius in Gurugram.
In Punjab, Ludhiana registered a maximum of 31.8 degrees Celsius, eight degrees below normal limits.
Amritsar recorded a high of 33.5 degrees Celsius, seven notches below normal, while Patiala’s maximum settled at 32 degrees Celsius, nearly eight degrees below normal.
In Faridkot and Gurdaspur, highs of 33.5 degrees Celsius and 32 degrees Celsius were registered respectively.
Rain lashed several parts of Punjab and Haryana on Saturday, bringing respite from the scorching heat that had gripped the region over the last several days.
On Saturday, too, the maximum temperatures dropped several notches below normal in both the states. PTI SUN PRK
