New Delhi, Jun 6 (PTI) Chief minister Rekha Gupta said on Saturday that the Delhi government’s revenue department inspected 124 sites across districts and issued several notices to curb illegal construction activities.
The move follows a major fire tragedy in Malviya Nagar that claimed 21 lives and injured several others. Gupta said the government is working under a “zero-tolerance” policy against unauthorised constructions, encroachments, and violations of fire safety norms.
“The government is not only taking action but is also developing a permanent mechanism to effectively curb such dangerous and illegal constructions in the future. The government is seriously exploring the possibility of developing a third-party insurance framework for buildings,”
Gupta said.
She said insurance companies would provide coverage only if structural safety and all required safety standards are complied with.
On day two of the sealing drive, various agencies carried out extensive enforcement measures, including demolition of illegal properties and sealing of premises, she said.
According to the revenue department, officials issued notices to violators after inspecting 10 sites in North District.
“Notices were also issued following inspections at 10 sites in East District, 21 in West District, 13 in South-West District, and 10 in Central District (North). During inspections of 30 sites in South District, officials sealed 11 premises and issued show-cause notices in 19 cases,” Gupta said in a statement.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) demolished 94 properties and sealed 114 properties between June 1 and June 6.
“In addition, officials issued 84 show-cause notices for unauthorised construction, 41 sealing notices, and 33 demolition orders,” she said.
The chief minister said the DDA will launch a special drive to identify illegal construction activities in buildings. Following the review, the DDA’s building department will launch a special drive to identify buildings where large-scale deviations from approved building plans have been found, she said.
“It was also decided that if serious violations of approved building plans are detected, strict action will be taken as per the rules, including removing the concerned architect from the panel and blacklisting them,” Gupta said.
She said the government’s objective is to ensure that no construction, commercial activity, or public-use facility operates in Delhi in a manner that threatens public safety and property. PTI SSM ASD ASD
