Lewis Hamilton marked his 41st birthday with a message of reflection, renewal and resolve, admitting the past year had been “very draining” as he prepares for a fresh chapter at Ferrari.
The seven-time
world champion, who endured a difficult first season with the Scuderia in 2025, failed to finish on the podium for the first time in his Formula 1 career and ended the year sixth in the drivers’ standings. Team-mate Charles Leclerc outscored him comfortably, adding to what Hamilton later described as “the worst season ever” and a “nightmare”.
Taking to Instagram, Hamilton said he was using the off-season to “unplug from the matrix” and reset mentally and physically.

“I’m incredibly grateful for this break. Time to disconnect, recharge and find a bit of inner peace,” he wrote. “Time with family and friends, replenishing with rest and good laughs, has been everything I needed after a very draining year.”
Hamilton also referenced the Chinese New Year, saying the transition from the Year of the Snake to the Year of the Horse symbolised a turning point.
“The time for change is now,” he added. “Starting new routines, leaving behind unwanted patterns and working on growth.”
Despite the struggles, the Brit struck an optimistic tone, urging fans to let go of what no longer serves them and take progress “one step at a time”. He also paid tribute to the support he received throughout 2025.
“Be you and never forget who you are,” Hamilton wrote. “I learnt that from many of you last year. Your support means the world to me. You are never alone.”
Hamilton now looks ahead to the 2026 season, with sweeping new F1 regulations offering hope of a reset — not just for the sport, but for him personally.
