Office-goers heading home this evening should brace for delays, with Delhi Traffic Police enforcing restrictions across more than 35 roads and 22 diversion points ahead of a motorcade rehearsal for the BRICS Summit, scheduled to be held in New Delhi from September 11 to 13.
The regulations will be in force from 7:45 pm to 9 pm — squarely in the middle of the evening rush hour — covering key connector roads through Lutyens’ Delhi, South Delhi and the Ring Road corridor.
Commuters travelling toward South, Central, or New Delhi, or heading out toward the airport or Gurugram, are the most likely to be affected and should factor in extra travel time or consider the Metro, which will remain fully operational.

What Should Office-Goers Keep In Mind While Heading Home Today?
• Use the Metro where possible — it stays fully operational through the restriction window, while buses may be rerouted.
• Build in extra travel time between 7:45 pm and 9 pm, especially if your commute runs through Lutyens’ Delhi, Dhaula Kuan, or the Ring Road stretch.
• Avoid parking within 200m of any Controlled Road — vehicles parked closer are liable to action.
• Commuters heading to the airport during this window should prioritise the Metro to avoid delays; emergency and essential vehicles get priority on the road.
• Watch for traffic personnel instructions at diversion points — several routes will differ from usual GPS-suggested paths.
Delhi Traffic Police have separately issued an advisory on rescue-related traffic movement around the Satya Niketan building collapse site, commuters travelling through South Delhi should check that too before setting out.
