Multiple Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) fighters launched a major assault on the police training centre in Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, triggering a heavy exchange of gunfire and multiple
explosions, CNN-News18 has learned.
According to police officials, around seven to eight TTP militants stormed the police facility with heavy weapons, including automatic rifles and grenades. Initial reports suggest that a suicide bomber detonated himself near the main gate of the training centre, followed by intense firing between the attackers and security personnel.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police said that five TTP fighters have been killed so far in retaliatory fire. At least three more attackers are believed to be holed up inside or near the compound.
Following the explosions, heavy gunfire resumed as security reinforcements and additional police units were deployed to the area. The site has been completely cordoned off and emergency response teams have been dispatched.
Casualty figures among police personnel are not yet confirmed and authorities have yet to issue an official statement.
Details are awaited.
