Bhubaneswar, Jul 4 (PTI) Odisha Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) RS Gopalan on Saturday asked Electoral Roll Observers (EROs) to closely monitor the scrutiny of the draft electoral roll and the disposal of claims and objections to ensure that no eligible voter is left out during the SIR exercise.
Gopalan issued the direction while chairing a virtual meeting with 10 newly appointed senior IAS officers designated as EROs.
“The EROs were asked to closely monitor the scrutiny of the draft electoral roll and the disposal of claims and objections, ensuring that no eligible elector is left out and that the electoral roll remains accurate, inclusive and error-free,” an official statement issued by the CEO’s office said.
The meeting reviewed the successful
completion of the enumeration phase, progress of digitisation and preparedness for the publication of the draft electoral roll.
The observers were also briefed on the overall revision process and their responsibilities during the upcoming stages, officials said.
The Election Commission has directed the observers to visit their allotted districts at least three times during the revision exercise. Besides district headquarters, they have been asked to undertake field visits to other areas to monitor the process.
The observers have also been instructed to hold meetings with MPs, MLAs and representatives of recognised political parties to hear grievances related to the electoral roll revision and encourage their participation.
The observers will submit detailed reports to the CEO after each visit based on the checklists prescribed by the EC. PTI AAM AAM SOM
