Indian men’s cricket team will face Sri Lanka in a two-match Test series next month. The BCCI selectors are set to announce India’s squad for the away series next week, but ahead of the team announcement, it has been reported that star spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar will miss the first Test. The Tamil Nadu-based cricketer suffered an injury during the second ODI against England at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on July 16.
According to a report published in Dainik Jagran on Sunday (July 26), while Sundar will miss the first Test, pacer Harshit Rana and all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy are also set to be ruled out for the entire series.
Rana suffered a hamstring injury during the third T20I between India and England in Nottingham on July 7,
while Nitish was ruled out due to an aggravated left quadriceps injury ahead of India’s tour of Ireland and England in June-July 2026.
Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah’s selection, meanwhile, is subject to fitness.
Bumrah, who tops the ICC Test bowling rankings, last played a Test match for India against South Africa in November 2025. He featured in the first two ODIs against England earlier this month but was unavailable for selection in the third ODI due to a knee injury.
As per the available information, Bumrah will rest until July 30, after which he will report to the BCCI Centre of Excellence.

Schedule of India-Sri Lanka Test series
The first Test of the two-match series between India and Sri Lanka is scheduled to take place at the Galle International Cricket Stadium from August 15 to 19, while the second Test will be played from August 23 to 27 at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. India last toured Sri Lanka for a Test series in 2017 and won all three matches.
Meanwhile, the last Test series between the two teams was played in March 2022, with India winning both matches under Rohit Sharma’s leadership.
India must win both Test matches against Sri Lanka in August 2026 to keep their chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2027 final alive.
