India‘s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav was on fire against New Zealand in the fifth T20I. In the match played at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday (January 31), the 35-year-old
right-handed batter from Mumbai scored 63 runs from 30 balls. During his stay at the crease, he hammered 4 fours and 10 sixes for the Indian team and also added 137 runs from just 57 balls for the third wicket with Ishan Kishan, who made 103 from 43 balls.
In the match that India won by 46 runs to bag the series with a scoreline of 4-1, Surya also completed 3000 runs in T20Is. He is the third Indian after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to score more than 3000 runs in the 20-over format of the game for the Men in Blue.
Surya needed 33 runs in the fifth T20I to join the 3000-run club, and he achieved the objective during the 13th over of India’s innings. On the fifth ball of the over bowled by Lockie Ferguson, Surya hammered him for a four to take his tally of runs to 3001 in the 20-over format of the game.

He scored his 3000th T20I run on the 1822nd ball. The previous record of being the fastest batter in the world to score 3000 runs in T20Is was in the name of the UAE’s Muhammad Waseem. Waseem, who captains the United Arab Emirates team and also plays as an opening batter, needed 1947 balls to score 3000 runs in T20Is.
