A meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the G20 in Miami is “impossible”, the Kremlin said on Saturday, rejecting a proposal from the Ukrainian leader.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the remarks to AFP in New Delhi, reiterating Moscow’s position that any direct meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy could take place only in the Russian capital.
Asked whether the Kremlin was considering any alternative location for such a meeting, Peskov said there was no change in Moscow’s position.
“There is a readiness to meet him in Moscow,” Peskov
The comments come amid continued diplomatic efforts surrounding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, with Kyiv and Moscow remaining at odds over
the conditions and location for any potential high-level meeting. Recent efforts to revive negotiations have yet to produce a confirmed breakthrough.
Peskov’s remarks effectively rule out a meeting between the two leaders at the upcoming G20 gathering in Miami, while keeping Moscow’s offer of a meeting in the Russian capital on the table.
