Rajasthan Royals dealt Punjab Kings’ first defeat of the season at the PCA Stadium in Mullanpur on Tuesday in their IPL 2026 encounter. Punjab put up 222/4, built around half-centuries from Prabhsimran Singh and Marcus Stoinis. Rajasthan overhauled the target with 6 wickets in hand, driven by fifties from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Donovan Ferreira.
Following the conclusion of the game veteran spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was spotted passing on his wisdom to young RR turner Yash raj Punja, who has impressed this season.
“Everyday is a new day. The precious game you picked up a fifer is done,” he said.
“What are you going to do today, just focus on that. If you’ve gone for 40 runs in 4 over, work on brining it down to 34 or 35.”
“You’ve got height working
in your advantage, you’d get a lot of bounce. Force the batter to play it over the ball, not on the backfoot,” the seasoned spinner said.

After RR captain Riyan Parag opted to field, PBKS were propelled by Prabhsimran’s brisk 59 and a rapid start alongside Arya, before Archer dismissed Arya. Connolly chipped in with a quickfire 30 off 14, and Shreyas Iyer added 30 to keep the innings flowing. Stoinis then exploded with an unbeaten 62 off just 22 balls to push the total to 222/4. Yash Punja emerged as Rajasthan’s most effective bowler, claiming two wickets.
In pursuit of 223, RR openers Sooryavanshi and Jaiswal went on the attack from the outset, putting on 51 before Arshdeep removed Sooryavanshi. Jaiswal, together with Jurel, maintained the tempo and carried the score past 100 inside 9 overs. PBKS leg-spinner Chahal brought his side back into the contest by dismissing Jurel, the half-centurion Jaiswal, and captain Parag, picking up three wickets and momentarily stalling Rajasthan’s chase.
Ferreira then joined impact substitute Shubam Dube to stabilise and reignite the pursuit. Ferreira reached an unbeaten fifty, while Dube stayed 31 not out, and the pair guided RR to the target with four balls remaining.
