Residents across parts of Bengaluru and its outskirts should brace for scheduled power outages this weekend, as electricity supply agencies carry out planned maintenance and transmission upgrade work. The power cuts are expected to be long daytime shutdowns, affecting several residential, industrial and rural pockets.
According to officials, the outages are part of ongoing infrastructure strengthening works aimed at improving power reliability ahead of the summer months.
Power supply is likely to be interrupted on Saturday and Sunday, with outages expected to last through most of the day.
The tentative shutdown window is from 6 am to 6 pm on both days. However, officials have cautioned that restoration times may vary slightly depending on how quickly
the maintenance work is completed.
Areas Likely to Be Affected
The planned outages are expected to impact several areas, particularly on the outskirts of the city and along key transmission corridors. Areas that may face power disruption include:
Sarjapura
Attibele and Attibele Industrial Area
Anekal and nearby villages
Samanduru
Balagaranahalli
Manchanahalli
Dasanapura
Balluru
Kamblipura
Chikkanahalli
Indlabele
Harohalli
Officials have said that downstream areas connected to these feeders may also experience temporary power cuts during the maintenance window.
Why Is the Power Being Shut Down?
The outages are being carried out to facilitate transmission line upgrades and grid strengthening work, including the installation of high-capacity conductors and related substation maintenance. Power supply agencies have said the work is necessary to reduce breakdowns, handle higher electricity demand, and ensure stable supply during peak summer.
They have added that daytime shutdowns are required to safely complete the work and protect maintenance staff.
With outages expected to last several hours, residents are advised to plan ahead. Charging essential devices such as mobile phones, laptops and power banks in advance can help avoid inconvenience. Those working from home or running small businesses may want to plan work schedules accordingly.
Residents relying on electrical appliances for water pumping are also advised to store water ahead of time. In areas with inverter or generator backup, checking fuel levels and battery charge beforehand can help ensure uninterrupted use.
Will There Be More Power Cuts?
Officials have indicated that similar planned outages may continue in the coming weeks as upgrade work progresses across different parts of the city. Residents are advised to keep an eye on local BESCOM notices, feeder-level alerts and official updates for the most accurate, area-specific information.
For now, authorities say the short-term inconvenience is aimed at ensuring smoother and more reliable power supply in the long run.
