A shocking video of an Indian couple in Vietnam has surfaced, showing them allegedly shoplifting from a street-side vendor. Captured on CCTV and widely circulated on platforms like Instagram, Reddit and X (formerly Twitter), the footage shows the couple pretending to browse at a roadside stall before allegedly stealing items
The incident has gone viral across social media platforms, sparking widespread condemnation and renewed debate around responsible tourism.
While the vendor briefly turns away to fetch clothes for the couple, the man is seen discreetly picking up an item from the table and passing it to his wife. The woman, holding a child, quickly hides the item. Moments later, she is seen taking another object from the display while the man continues

Social Media Users Weigh In
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many condemning the couple’s actions. Most users criticised them for tarnishing India’s global image.
A user commented, “I am done seeing people spend fortunes on fancy hotels, but they remember that little trinket they picked up from a local artisan long after the trip is over.”
“All done while holding a toddler in her hands… great role models,” pointed out a user.
An individual stated, “As an Indian, I’m embarrassed, but not all Indians are like that.”
“I’m an Indian, but this behaviour is not acceptable. Why do you people always humiliate us? I went to Vietnam they all said Indian people bargain and do not take anything,” read a comment.
An account posted, “Shame … I don’t understand why people want to cheat others.”
“This is so shameful. If you can’t afford to buy, then don’t buy. How can they loot these street-side vendors? Will roam the world flashing riches yet stoop to petty theft that shames the nation,” another user added.
Similar Incident In the United States
This incident follows a similar case in the United States earlier this year. In July 2025, an Indian woman named Anaya was caught stealing merchandise worth $1,300 (Rs 1.08 lakh) at a Target store in Illinois, United States. A viral bodycam video shows the interaction between the woman and police officers in the police interrogation room.
In the clip, the woman mentions that she was from India and did not have a passport at the time when she was being interrogated.
Police officers were heard telling her that she had committed a felony as she apologised and offered to pay for the stolen items.
