Former India batting coach Abhishek Nayar had to turn into Rohit Sharma’s bodyguard as a huge crowd engulfed the former national captain at Shivaji Park on Friday.
In videos shared by fans on social media, Abhishek is seen coming out of a door with a worried face and pleading with the crowd, asking them that they needed to make sure that Rohit wasn’t pushed. ‘Hum sab fan hai leking usko lagna nahi chahiye (we are all fans but he shouldn’t get hurt at all)’.
Rohit is then seen coming out, preceded by dozens of more security and police guards, and carefully escorted to his car, even as hundreds stand over each other to catch a glimpse of him. Watch it here:

Rohit reportedly trained for nearly two hours with his former Mumbai teammate Nayar at Shivaji Park, as preparation for this month’s tour of Australia. Recently replaced by Shubman Gill as India’s captain in ODIs, the only format he plays now internationally, Rohit will return to action in a three-match series beginning on October 19 in Perth.
Mumbai cricketer Angkrish Raghuvanshi and a few other local players were present at the training when Rohit had two batting net sessions at the All Heart Cricket Academy.
The 38-year-old Rohit last played for India in the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand in February this year, leading the team to their second consecutive ICC title after the T20 World Cup win in the Americas in 2024.
Rohit, Virat Kohli Kohli, and the newly-appointed ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer will join the Indian team, which is currently playing against the West Indies in the second Test, in New Delhi before their departure to Australia in two separate batches on October 15.
