Odisha FC, a leading domestic football club, is experiencing a significant leadership transition. CEO Raj Athwal has stepped down just four days following the mutual departure of head coach Sergio Lobera.
The club confirmed Athwal’s resignation via an official statement, which indicated that the decision was communicated by Athwal and accepted by management.
“Odisha FC can confirm that CEO Raj Athwal has informed the club management of his decision to move on, and the club has accepted the same. The club would like to thank Raj for his leadership, professionalism, and contributions during his tenure with the club.
“Under his stewardship, Odisha FC secured its first-ever silverware with the Super Cup triumph, followed by the Indian Women’s League
2023-24 and achieved qualification for the AFC competition knockout stages by both the men’s and women’s teams of Odisha FC,” the statement, shared on X, read.
The club also detailed interim administrative arrangements during this transitional period.
General Manager, Ravi Khedar, will act as the primary Point of Contact (POC) for all club communications and matters as the club moves forward and awaits further clarity regarding the league.
Club owner Rohan Sharma expressed his gratitude for Athwal’s contributions over the past five years, noting his sadness at Athwal’s departure but wishing him the best.
Athwal’s exit follows Odisha FC’s announcement on December 26 of the end of their association with head coach Lobera. The club thanked Lobera for his dedication and contributions during his tenure and announced that they are awaiting further clarity on the league to make an announcement regarding the new head coach.
