Celebrity chef Harpal Singh Sokhi, known for his energetic hosting style and innovative cuisine, appeared as a judge on Laughter Chefs 2. Despite being one of the country’s most renowned chefs, he has never appeared on MasterChef India. Recently, Harpal explained why he declined the opportunity, revealing that he felt demeaned after being approached twice for the show.
In conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Harpal Singh Sokhi recalled his first interaction with the makers of MasterChef. He said, “I refused it twice. Apna apna junoon. During season 1, there was an opportunity, but it got stuck in back and forth. In season 3, it was serious. I gave an audition at my home, and all those things happened. I was at my peak for Turban Tadka. I had done
serious television on food and many reality shows too by then. I didn’t want to audition, but Sanjeev Kapoor called and requested me. He said it might be their last season, and I should do it.”
Harpal Singh Sokhi Gave Repeated Auditions
Harpal Singh Sokhi explained that his first audition was conducted at home. Later, while on his way to the office, he received another call requesting a second round. He suggested that they coordinate with their head to clarify what they were looking for. After that, he was never called again, and he did not follow up. Harpal felt that a second audition was unnecessary and found the situation disrespectful. The celebrity chef also expressed his disappointment that contestants with no television experience were selected, despite him being repeatedly invited to audition.
