Batwara 1947 First Look Out: Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta Starrer To Release On August 14

The first look of Rajkumar Santoshi’s ‘Batwara 1947’ has finally been unveiled, offering a glimpse into the period drama led by Sunny Deol, alongside Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal and Abhimanyu Singh. The film, backed by Aamir Khan Productions, is set against the turbulent backdrop of the Partition era. Apart from the first look, the makers also revealed the release date of the film- August 14, 2026. It will lock horns at the box office with Emraan Hashmi starrer Awarapan 2.

In the newly released first look promo of Batwara 1947, Sunny Deol is seen in a powerful and intense avatar, holding a flaming torch. His expression is firm and determined, suggesting a character driven by strength, conviction and courage amid challenging

times. Behind him stand Preity Zinta, Karan Deol, and Khushi Hajare, all shown with visibly fearful and anxious expressions. Another glimpse also features Shabana Azmi’s first look.

Adding to the impact is a heartbreaking background score by AR Rahman, which deepens the emotional weight of the visuals. Sharing the first look teaser, the makers wrote, “In times of hatred and fear, he chose courage. Watch #Batwara1947 in theatres from 14th August 2026.” Check it out below!

About Batwara 1947

Batwara 1947 is an upcoming period drama directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan under Aamir Khan Productions. Set during the Partition of India in 1947, the film features an ensemble cast including Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal, Abhimanyu Singh, Khushi Hajare and others. Originally titled Lahore 1947, the film was later renamed Batwara 1947.

It is based on Asghar Wajahat’s renowned play ‘Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai’.  The music is composed by A. R. Rahman, with lyrics penned by Javed Akhtar.

Initially planned to release in 2025, the film was postponed due to post-production work. It is now slated to hit theatres on August 14, 2026, coinciding with the Independence Day weekend.
