Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has shared an update regarding Zubeen Garg’s funeral. Recently, Sarma took to his X handle and revealed that the late singer’s mortal remains will be handed over to the Indian authorities after a post-mortem in Singapore. Following this, Zubeen’s mortal remains will be kept at Sarusajai, Guwahati, for fans to pay their last tributes.
“Singaporean authorities have confirmed that a post-mortem of our beloved Zubeen Garg will be conducted. We expect this to conclude by 2 PM SGT. Thereafter, his mortal remains will be handed over to Indian authorities and we shall begin the process of bringing him home. Shall keep all of you posted,” Assam Chief Minister wrote.
In another post on X, Biswa wrote, “I am in constant
touch with the High Commissioner of India HE Dr Shilpak Ambule. We are coordinating to ensure beloved Zubeen’s mortal remains return to Assam at the earliest. As soon as the process is firmed up, I will share an update. @HCI_Singapore.”

Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19. Garg was rescued from the sea by Singapore police and immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where doctors monitored his condition and provided intensive care. Despite these efforts, the singer sadly succumbed to his injuries. The singer had travelled to Singapore to participate in the North East Festival, where he was scheduled to perform on the day of the incident.
Zubeen’s sudden death has left the entire nation shocked. Among others, Pritam, Papon, Armaan Malik and Badshah also took to their respective social media handles to pay tribute to Garg.
Prime Minister Modi also posted on X: “Shocked by the sudden demise of popular singer Zubeen Garg. He will be remembered for his rich contribution to music. His renditions were very popular among people across all walks of life. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”
