Jun 11 (PTI) Kerala Health Minister K Muraleedharan on Thursday said that six people have tested positive for Shigella infection in Thiruvananthapuram, two in Kollam, and three in Kozhikode districts.
This is in addition to nine positive cases reported in Wayanad, Muraleedharan said at a press conference here.
The minister said the results of seven samples are still awaited.
He further said that 578 people are currently symptomatic.
Shigella is a bacterial infection that causes diarrhoea, fever and stomach cramps. It spreads primarily through contaminated food or water and through contact with infected individuals. PTI HMP SSK
