Khushi Kapoor is once again trending online — but not for a new film. A month-old interview clip featuring her father Boney Kapoor has gone viral again, where he reveals that Khushi received a scholarship
to the prestigious New York Film Academy. The internet, however, is not impressed.
Trolls Question Acting Chops After Nadaaniyan Flop
In the interview with Komal Nahta, Boney Kapoor spoke about his daughter’s journey into acting. “You know, Khushi was admitted to this New York Film Academy on scholarship. I didn’t have to pay the fees,” he said.
When asked what the selection process was like, Boney added, “You send your audition to decide whether you can be admitted or not. And she was offered scholarship.”
Now that the clip is back in circulation, social media users have reacted sharply. Many brought up her performance in Nadaaniyan, which was panned by critics and audiences alike.
One Reddit user joked, “They probably sent in one of Sridevi’s scenes and the academy thought it was Khushi.” Another wrote, “Not even a single cell in her body has an ability to act. Scholarship is too far-fetched lol.”
Khushi made her debut in The Archies last year, which failed to make an impact. Earlier this year, she starred in Loveyapa with Junaid Khan, where a few critics saw some potential. But it was Nadaaniyan, her OTT outing with Ibrahim Ali Khan, that led to trolling.
The resurfaced interview sparked another backlash, with users questioning how a scholarship was awarded when her acting hasn’t convinced viewers yet. “It’s well known that wealthy people can buy entrance into colleges in the US,” read one of the more cynical comments.
What’s Next for Khushi Kapoor?
Despite the criticism, Khushi continues to take on new projects. In a recent chat with Filmfare, Khushi said that she hasn’t had the opportunity to do a serious role, which she gravitates towards. Khushi said that she finds it more creatively satisfying to play a flawed, dramatic character. Nonetheless, she is always on the lookout for a good script.
Khushi Kapoor said, “I’m always drawn to good stories, so I would just say I want to be able to be a part of good stories and good films. I’ve always kind of gravitated towards more dramatic and serious films and parts, and I feel I’ve not explored much of that yet as an actor. But I always found it much more interesting and satisfying creatively to be able to dive into a more flawed character. So I think that could be interesting.”
