A one-and-a-half-year-old boy died by drowning after falling into a two-foot-deep artificial pond while attending a birthday party in Gujarat’s Surat. According to Indian Express, who first reported the story, the deceased toddler, identified as Krishiv Savaliya, died after falling into the artificial pond on the premises of a hotel where he had come with his parents to attend the birthday party of a trustee of a school where his father works as a teacher.
Police told the newspaper that Vijay Savaliya, who lives in Yogi Chowk, Surat, was at a private hotel in the Pal area with his wife and toddler son to attend a birthday party when the little boy wandered away.
They said that Krishiv walked out of the door of the banquet hall and walked up to
a small artificial water pond on the hotel premises and then fell inside. They then checked the CCTV footage where they saw the toddler strolling out from the doors of the banquet hall and falling into the artificial pond.
His parents had realised his absence after a short while and began a search for him and around the same time another guest, who was seated near the main gate of the hotel, noticed something floating on the artificial pond’s surface and informed a waiter.
Krishiv was then fished out of the pond and rushed to the nearby private hospital where he was declared dead on arrival by doctors, Pal police station inspector Shital Shah told the newspaper.
The Indian Express report said that at least 50 couples, accompanied by their children, were invited to the party for the 75th birthday celebration of the school trustee.
“Krishiv’s parents were busy with something when the child walked out of the banquet hall’s main door, which had been opened with some guests entering or exiting the venue. He walked out of the hall, saw the artificial pond, and fell inside,” Shital Shah was quoted as saying.
