Union Home Minister Amit Shah virtually launched the National IED Data Management System (NIDMS), describing it as a major step towards strengthening India’s counter-terror and internal security framework.
Announcing the launch in a post on X (formerly Twitter), Amit Shah said the system would harness the power of data to build “India’s next-gen security shield against terror”.
“Today inaugurated via video conferencing, the National IED Data Management System (NIDMS) of the @nsgblackcats, a new tool that engages the power of data, building India’s next-gen security shield against terror,” Amit Shah wrote.
“Collating an expansive pool of data on bombs on one digital platform, this system will lead our agencies to the source of bomb attacks through
right information and analysis and fulfill the Modi govt’s goal of shattering every module inimical to India,” he added.
Developed by the National Security Guard, the NIDMS is a secure, national-level digital platform designed for the systematic collection, collation and dissemination of data related to Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
Amit Shah said the new system would significantly enhance inter-agency coordination and improve the speed and accuracy of information sharing. He said the platform would ensure the delivery of “the right information at the right time and in the right place”.
The Home Minister said the NIDMS would enable Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) units, state police forces and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) across the country to access and utilise a wide range of data through a single digital interface. He added that the system would function as a two-way platform, allowing agencies not only to retrieve information but also to contribute data.
Amit Shah underlined that in the coming years, the NIDMS would serve as a new protective shield for the country by supporting investigations into terrorist incidents involving explosions or the use of IEDs.
He noted that while the Ministry of Home Affairs has generated large volumes of data over the years, much of it has remained siloed. Efforts are now underway, he said, to integrate these datasets and develop advanced artificial intelligence-based software for deeper analysis. Expressing confidence in the new platform, Amit Shah said the NIDMS would accelerate this integration process and called it an important milestone in India’s efforts to counter terrorism and enhance internal security.
