Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend MS Dhoni has stumped his fans by making an appearance in a Mumbai Indians (MI) shirt. In an Instagram post shared by entrepreneur Arjun Vaidya, Dhoni was seen posing with
a group outside a football pitch, and the influencer captioned it ‘Football game with MS’.
Others wore football boots, but Dhoni was barefoot. He wore a black lower and a white tank-top which had the MI logo and a couple of sponsors of the franchise. Check the post here:

It drew mixed reactions on social media. While MI fans rejoiced, CSK supporters were angry.
One user wrote, “Dream come true. Atleast off the field, Thala Dhoni wears the Mumbai Indians shirt.”
Another said, “MS Dhoni wearing MI jersey. 2025 is not a normal calendar year.”

Dhoni has often been seen playing football barefoot. When the Indian cricket teams started including the sport in their warm-up routines, he was almost always the best player. That’s no surprise considering his childhood was spent in MECON quarters in Ranchi, and he played football for DAV Shyamali.
However, from a cricketing perspective, it’s a fascinating look seeing Dhoni in a MI kit. Some fans speculated whether the Indian great could be making a switch to the rivals, but that can be considered just less than impossible, considering how he has already been involved in the team’s pre-season planning.
It also shows that rivalries in cricket aren’t as passionate or hostile as other sports. Dhoni is certainly attached to CSK’s yellow, which was palpable when he represented Rising Pune Supergiant during the two-year period when the team was banned/
“It was a very emotional moment…since I have started playing T20 cricket represented the Indian cricket team, Jharkhand team in few tournaments and CSK for eight years, so it was a emotional moment not to see myself in yellow. But at the same time as professionals, we have to move ahead and also not to prove to anyone but to prove a point to myself that I am making sure whatever I gave in for CSK, I am not leaving any inch that I am not giving for the Pune team,” he had said at the time.
But, for instance, in football, the equivalent would be Cristiano Ronaldo sporting a Barcelona training kit while still at Real Madrid, which would have gotten him all but canceled in the Spanish capital.
