Chandigarh, Jul 1 (PTI) Haryana Chief Electoral Officer A Sreenivas on Wednesday urged people not to believe rumours about the deletion of voters’ names from the electoral rolls, describing reports circulating on social media as misleading and baseless.
In a statement, Sreenivas said the Election Commission of India (ECI) is committed to ensuring that every eligible citizen is included in the electoral roll while preventing the inclusion of ineligible persons.
He said that under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are distributing Enumeration Forms to all existing voters between June 15 and July 14.
Existing voters who submit their signed Enumeration Forms within the stipulated period will be included
in the preliminary electoral roll without the need to submit any additional documents.
Clarifying the process, the chief electoral officer said a voter’s name may be considered for deletion only in specific cases, such as duplicate or multiple registrations, death, permanent migration, inability to trace the voter after verification, or refusal to sign the enumeration form.
He said any such action would be taken only after a local inquiry and in accordance with the prescribed procedure.
Sreenivas said that if an enumeration form is not received, the BLO will prepare a list noting the likely reasons, including death, migration, absence or duplicate registration.
The list will be discussed with booth-level agents of political parties and displayed on the notice boards of the concerned offices as well as on the department’s website.
He said eligible voters can submit their signed enumeration forms until July 14 through the BLO, an adult family member or online. No supporting documents are required during the enumeration phase.
The chief electoral officer said that eligible citizens will also have an opportunity to file claims and objections from July 21 to August 20.
Applications for inclusion of names can be made through Form-6, while corrections can be sought through Form-8.
Appealing to citizens not to pay heed to rumours or false propaganda, Sreenivas urged them to submit their enumeration forms within the prescribed timeline.
He said that as of 2 pm on July 1, 95.09 per cent of enumeration forms had been distributed across Haryana, while 32.66 per cent had been digitised.
He also directed all district electoral officers to complete the SIR-2026 exercise in a transparent, fair and time-bound manner after proper verification. PTI VSD MPL MPL
