For the first time, electric double-decker buses have been introduced on the Lucknow-Barabanki-Ayodhya route in Uttar Pradesh, and a video capturing the new service has caught the attention of many. While
people were excited about the modern buses, one unusual detail, the driver chewing gutka, also sparked humorous reactions online.
The clip, shared on Instagram, opens with a man following the bus on his bike. As the bus halts, he hops on, showing viewers the brand-new interiors. Still wrapped in plastic, the seats looked fresh and untouched. The driver informs him that the bus will run between Lucknow, Ayodhya, and Barabanki. The man enthusiastically climbs to the upper deck, highlighting the spacious seating and easy entry and exit points.
He later steps outside to give a full view of the vehicle and explains how convenient it is for passengers. The video, shared on September 6, has already crossed 1.2 million views, and the comments section has been buzzing ever since.

Double-Decker Buses in Lucknow
The Uttar Pradesh government launched these eco-friendly electric buses in 2024, just ahead of Navratri, to manage the festive rush and promote green mobility. In Lucknow, the double-decker buses are reportedly designed especially for tourists, offering city tours covering landmarks such as Bhool Bhulaiya, Residency, and the Lucknow Zoo. Passengers can enjoy panoramic views from the upper deck while paying a single, affordable ticket price.
As per Coach Builders India, the buses operate from 3 PM to 10 PM daily, and tickets are available online through UPSRTC’s website, app, and bus depots. Charging stations for the buses are also being set up at over 2,000 locations, including fuel pumps and depots.
Features And Passenger Facilities
The new double-decker electric buses are reportedly equipped with air-conditioning, CCTV cameras, Wi-Fi, and panic buttons for women’s safety. They also feature fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, and emergency exits.
As per the ClubMahindra website, each bus accommodates 40 passengers, 20 on the lower deck and 20 on the upper deck. Fares are kept budget-friendly, starting at Rs 12 for short routes and going up to Rs 45 for longer distances, encouraging more people to use public transport.
