UP Warriorz are sporting a pink jersey for their reverse fixture against Mumbai Indians in the ongoing Women’s Premier League on Saturday afternoon. MI won the toss against an unchanged UPW in the 10th match of the season and opted to bowl first.
UPW have donned the special jersey to advocate flexible and open schooling to help girls continue their education.
“At UP Warriorz, we believe sport has the power to shape conversations that extend far beyond the game. This special match reflects our belief that education should adapt to life, not the other way around. Through our partnership with Educate Girls, we hope to normalise second chances in education and remind every girl that her learning journey does not have to end because life took a different
turn,” UPW said in an official statement.
The Warriorz retained their starting lineup from the previous game, while the MI made two changes, bringing back Hayley Matthews and debuting Nalla Kranthi Reddy.
UP Warriorz encountered a rough start with three consecutive losses but bounced back with a seven-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians on Thursday. Harleen Deol’s commanding 64 off 39 balls was the highlight of the match, demonstrating her strength and stability. Despite this win, the Warriorz remain at the bottom of the points table.
Conversely, the Mumbai Indians, aiming to build momentum with back-to-back victories after a narrow loss in their opening game, slipped to second place in the standings following their defeat to the Warriorz.
After winning the toss, MI captain Harmanpreet Kaur explained their decision to bowl first, citing their strength in chasing. She announced the inclusion of Matthews due to the day match conditions, with Ismail resting, and introduced Kanchan in place of Poonam.
Warriorz captain Meg Lanning expressed a preference for bowling first but noted the potential for success batting first, referencing Gujarat’s strong performance earlier in the tournament. She expressed readiness to face Mumbai again and mentioned the team’s unchanged lineup.
