'A Great Partner': Marco Rubio Says US Ready To Supply More Energy To India Amid Supply Disruption

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the Donald Trump administration is ready to significantly expand energy exports to India amid global supply disruptions triggered by the ongoing West Asia conflict.

Rubio, who is scheduled to arrive in India this weekend for his first official visit to the country, said Washington wants to become a much larger part of New Delhi’s energy portfolio and is already engaged in discussions to boost oil and energy supplies.

“We want to sell them as much energy as they will buy. We are at historic levels of US production and US exports. We want to be able to do more. We were already in talks with them to do more, we want to be a bigger part of their portfolio,” Rubio said.

He also indicated that Venezuelan oil could

emerge as another potential source for India, saying it was his understanding that Venezuela’s interim president would also be travelling to India next week.

The remarks come at a time when India is facing mounting energy security concerns after crude oil prices surged above USD 100 per barrel due to escalating tensions in West Asia. India imports nearly 85% of its crude oil requirement, making global supply disruptions a major economic concern.

Calling his India visit “important”, Rubio described India as a “great ally” and a “great partner”, while highlighting growing cooperation between the two countries across multiple sectors.

“We do a lot of good work with them. So, this is an important trip. I am glad we are able to do it. We will also meet with the Quad there,” he said.

Rubio’s visit from May 23 to 26 is expected to focus on energy security, trade, defence cooperation and Indo-Pacific strategy, with India also set to host a ministerial-level Quad meeting involving the United States, Japan and Australia.
