Ram Mandir 2nd Anniversary: The second anniversary of the pran-pratishtha of Lord Ram Lalla in Ayodhya’s Ram Janmabhoomi Temple will be celebrated on December 31, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra
Trust said.
With much pomp and grandeur, the 51-inch-tall idol of Ram Lalla was consecrated in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple in Ayodhya on January 22, 2024. However, the pran-pratishtha anniversary is being celebrated according to the Hindu calendar.
There is a tradition in Hinduism to celebrate all festivals according to Hindu dates. According to the Hindu calendar, the consecration ceremony took place on Paush Shukla Paksh Dwadshi, also known as Kurma Dwadashi (12th day in the full moon cycle of Paush month). This date falls on December 31, 2025, so it has been decided to follow the Hindu calendar and celebrate the pran-pratishtha ceremony on December 31 as Prathistha Dwadshi.
Meanwhile, the first anniversary of the mega event was celebrated on January 11 earlier this year.
As per the temple trust, flag hoisting ceremonies are planned on the spires of seven sub-temples dedicated to — Shiva, Surya, Ganpati, Hanumana, Bhagwati, Annapurna and Sheshavatara — in the temple complex. A meeting scheduled for Saturday will finalise the framework for the celebration.
As per trust officials, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath are likely to attend the December 31 ceremony as chief guests. Both leaders may jointly hoist the flags on the spires of all seven sub-temples, they added.
Rituals for the celebration will begin on December 27, including the worship of the flags to be hoisted. The designs for these flags have already been finalised.
Last month, PM Modi ceremonially hoisted a saffron flag on the spire of the temple, marking the completion of its construction. The special saffron flag — 22 feet by 11 feet — is made of durable parachute fabric and silk threads and was mounted on a 42-foot pole at the 161-foot spire using a 360-degree rotating mechanism. The triangular flag features symbols such as the Sun, ‘Om’, and the Kovidar tree.
Ram Janmabhoomi Temple
The temple, constructed in the traditional Nagara style, has a length (east-west) of 380 feet, a width of 250 feet, and a height of 161 feet.
The sanctum sanctorum houses the childhood form of Bhagwan Shri Ram (the idol of Shri Ram Lalla), while on the first floor, there is Shri Ram Darbar.
Supported by a total of 392 pillars and 44 doors, the Mandir is three-storied, with each floor being 20 feet tall. The temple complex features 87 intricately carved stone episodes from the life of Lord Ram based on the Valmiki Ramayana on the outer walls of the main shrine, with 79 bronze-cast episodes from Indian culture placed along the enclosure walls.
Seven mandapas, namely those of Maharishi Valmiki, Vashishtha, Vishwamitra, Maharishi Agastya, Nishadraj, Shabari, and Rishi’s wife Ahilya, have also been constructed, along with the completion of Maharshi Tulsi Das temple.
